Marshes, Dune & Seals
This is a once in a lifetime chance for you to spend a day with our marsh experts at Blakeney Point and go to all our secret places. You will wade through the River Glaven at low tide (make sure you roll your trousers up far enough) and splodge through the mud, squealing as it squidges up between your toes. Don't wear your best socks!
You will crunch your way along the shingle ridge and if you look carefully you might spot an oystercatcher's nest hidden in the stones. (Ask our leaders - they are great at spotting them.) Then you can hunt for semi-precious stones - we always find lots of quartz, agates and jasper but you might strike lucky and find some jet or amber!
Lunchtime is when you get a nice rest in the dunes to enjoy your picnic - but don't let the wrappers blow away. After lunch, we have a fab chillout session when everyone gets to lie down in the marram grass and listen to the rustling wind and hear the distant sound of birdsong. Someone always falls asleep. You can see the terns returning with beaks full of sand eels to feed their chicks. Watch them battle with the blackheaded gulls who try to steal the food. Who will win?
Finally take the boat ride to see the seals at the far end of the spit. They are SOOOOO cute and they always wave to us (honestly - we've got the photos). Then it's back to the Centre, tired, muddy and very, very happy.
Everyone loves this day - it's been declared better than Disney World! DON'T MISS IT.
