Rock Pools & Tide Fight
Come down to the beach at West Runton and see what you can find! In the rock pools, all the creatures will be hiding. (They're not daft - they REALLY don't want to be eaten.) You will have to search very carefully to find them but be patient because they ARE there. Favourite hiding places are those nearest to the sea so you will find lots of creatures in the rock pools there.
When you find something interesting - a crab or fish or sea anenome, please don't take them away from their hiding place. Call your friends over to have a look and GENTLY pick it up if you want to but don't put it in another rock pool because it might get eaten before it can find another hiding place. (You wouldn't like it much if a giant someone picked you up out of bed and then stuck you back in someone else's bed at the end of your street - it would be so embarrassing! But it would be even worse if they stuck you where something big and fierce and scary might eat you.)
At West Runton, we will show you where the famous elephant fossil was found. You will find out how the cliffs were formed and just why you can find so many semi-precious stones in Norfolk. (Have you any idea how they might have got here?) Finally if the tide is coming in, you might get to take part in our Sea Defence Game where, like King Canute, you try to hold back the sea. Who do you think will win?
