Evacuees
This is a two, three or four night experience of being an evacuee in the first evacuation at the beginning of the war.
Your group will travel to a village hall where you will be met by the ladies from the WVS and given a sticky bun and a drink. The billeting officer will take you to your accommodation where, that evening, you will hear war declared on the wireless.
You will be required to make war preparations by filling sand bags and putting tape and black-outs on the windows in preparation for the Blitz. You will have to support the war effort by digging for victory and cooking using wartime ingredients. You will experience the air raid siren.
During your visit there is the option to study Cromer at War during which you will decide what the town should do to protect itself and discover what really did happen during WW2. Documents will need to be shown when the bus is stopped at a checkpoint.
On the final full day, you will support the home guard by searching for the spy who has been hidden amongst you all week.
This programme was introduced last year and has already proved extremely popular. However, due to the number of instructors it requires, we are only able to offer it for visits made from November to February.
