Alan and Veronica founded Aylmerton Field Study Centre in 1989 and still live on site.
Alan began his working life in The Royal Navy but later trained as a primary school teacher and subsequently taught for 16 years, gaining the Advanced Certificate of Education (Special Needs). He holds a PSV licence and is occasionally called in to do a bit of minibus driving.
Veronica taught in primary schools for 20 years, with the last 11 as a head teacher. She has completed SPSA rock climbing training and was the catalyst behind the building of our bouldering wall.
Both Alan and Veronica have extensive experience of outdoor education, instructing full-time in the early years of the business. They are trying to withdraw gently from instructing but can still be found, out in the field, from time to time. They are still very much in control “behind the scenes”.
Alan and Veronica go by the radio names of Boss Hogg and Mother Goose respectively.
“Veronica’s legs and brain are as strong as ever! Thanks Alan for the drink and chats.”
